ADOLESCENT BONE STUDY
Bone Mineral Content and Bone Metabolism in Adolescents on Antipsychotic Therapy (Thrasher Foundation)
PI: Sriram Ramaswamy, M.D.
We are looking for two groups of subjects:
- Volunteers who are taking Haldol, Risperdal, or Zyprexa for a study about how medications affect teenagers bone health.
- Healthy volunteers not taking any antipsychotic medications
Eligibility criteria:
- Be 10-17 years old
- Be willing and able to come for 2 visits

A Comparison of Bone Mineral Density Changes During Treatment With Risperidone or Aripiprazole in Adolescents (Bristol-Myers Squibb Company)

- Volunteers who are taking Risperdal for at least 1 year

BIPOLAR DISORDERS
ADULT
Open Label Prophylaxis Study of Lithium Plus Extended-Release Carbamazepine (ERC-CBZ) Combination for Rapid Cycling Bipolar Disorder (Shire)

Have you been diagnosed with Bipolar Disorder and have rapid and accelerated mood swings? If so, you may be eligible to participate in a research study.
To be eligible you must:
- Be at least 19 years old
- Be currently taking Lithium for at least 6 months
- Not be diagnosed with Schizophrenia
- Not be addicted to drugs or alcohol for the past 30 days
- Be able to attend 19 visits during a 6-month period

If you are 19 years of age or older and you have been diagnosed with Bipolar Disorder, you may be able to participate in a new clinical research study of an investigational drug being studied for long-term use to see if it improves the condition of persons afflicted with this disorder.

Does your child have problems concentrating or is angry and irritable? Doesn’t feel like they fit in? Is unhappy? Does your child have bipolar disorder? If so, your child may be eligible to participate in a study.
To be eligible, your child:
- Must be 10-17 years old
- Must be diagnosed with or having symptoms of bipolar disorder
- Have extreme shifts in mood, energy & behavior
- Be irritable and/or depressed
- Be willing and able to come to the clinic weekly for 6 weeks

The Creighton University Department of Psychiatry is currently conducting a research study for teen depression.
To be eligible, your child must be:
- Be between the ages of 12-17 years of age
- Be healthy
- Have no other psychiatric diagnosis
- Be able to attend weekly appointments for the first 6 weeks

Acamprosate Augmentation in Treatment-Resistant Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (Forest Laboratories CMP-MD-14)

Do you experience symptoms such as persistent, unwelcome thoughts or images, or the urgent need to engage in certain rituals like repetitive hand washing, counting, checking, or cleaning even though you have been treated with medications?

Relapse Prevention: Long-Acting Atypical Antipsychotics (NIH 1 U01 MH070016-01A2)

This is a multicenter, randomized, open, effectiveness trial for patients with schizophrenia and schizoaffective disorder whose clinicians are considering long-term treatment with a second-generation antipsychotic medication.
To be eligible, you must also:
- Must be 19-75 years of age
- Had an exacerbation of your illness within the last 6 months

Predicting Response to Risperidone Treatment through Identification of Early-Onset of Antipsychotic Drug Action in Schizophrenia (Eli Lill F1D-US-HGMN)
PI: William Marcil, M.D.
Have you been diagnosed with schizophrenia and recently needed hospitalization, outpatient crisis management, or short-term treatment in an emergency room? If so, you might quality to participate in a research study to see if the response to Risperdal® Risperidone at two weeks will show better improvement for the treatment of schizophrenia.
To be eligible, you must also:
- Be between the ages of 19 and 65
- Have needed more care in the last two weeks (i.e. crisis management, increased clinic visits, emergency room treatment, or hospitalization)
- Be able to take study medication as directed
- Be able to come to the Creighton University Psychiatry Research Center 9 times over a 13-week period

Thousands of young people are diagnosed with schizophrenia, a devastating but manageable disorder. Creighton University Psychiatry Research Center is currently enrolling teenagers in a clinical research study evaluating an investigational drug for schizophrenia.
To be eligible, your child must:
- Be 13-17 years old
- Diagnosed with or having symptoms of schizophrenia such as:
- seeing or hearing things that are not real
- vivid and bizarre thoughts and ideas
- unusual speech that is disorganized
- lack of motivation and emotional expression
- Be accompanied by a parent or guardian at each study visit
